Firings For Protesting Israel Contract Were Illegal, Say Ex-Google Workers

A group of workers at Alphabet Inc's Google have filed a complaint with a US labor board claiming the tech company unlawfully fired them for protesting its cloud contract with the Israeli government.

The complaint was filed late Monday with the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), according to No Tech For Apartheid, a group affiliated with some of the workers. The group said the complaint alleges that by firing the workers, Google interfered with their rights under US labor law to advocate for better working conditions.

Reuters could not immediately obtain a copy of the complaint. Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Google this month said it had fired 28 employees who disrupted work at unspecified office locations while protesting Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract jointly awarded to Google and Amazon.com to supply the Israeli government with cloud services.

The workers claim the project supports Israel's development of military tools. Google has said the Nimbus contract "is not directed at highly sensitive, classified, or military workloads relevant to weapons or intelligence services."

Zelda Montes, a former Google employee who was arrested during a protest of Project Nimbus, said in a statement that Google fired workers to suppress organizing and send a message to its workforce that dissent would not be tolerated.

“Google is attempting to instill fear in employees," Montes said.

The workers in the NLRB complaint are seeking to be reinstated to their jobs with back pay, and a statement from Google that it will not violate workers' rights to organize.

The NLRB general counsel, which acts as a prosecutor, reviews complaints and attempts to settle claims it finds to have merit. If that fails, the general counsel can pursue cases before administrative judges and a five-member board appointed by the US president.

Selectors To Meet Jay Shah For T20 WC Team. Report Says "Pandya's Place..."

The national selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will meet BCCI secretary Jay Shah in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to finalise the 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup in the Americas but the official announcement might happen a day later. The BCCI secretary is the convenor of the senior selection committee (men) and with Shah busy with his political commitments, it is understood that the meeting will be held in Ahmedabad.

The second wicketkeeper's slot and all-rounder Hardik Pandya's place in the side will be the two talking points of the selection meeting.

It is understood that KL Rahul (IPL strike rate of 144 and 378 runs so far) and Sanju Samson (385 runs at a strike rate of 161) are still locked in a battle for the second wicketkeeper's slot.

Rajasthan Royals captain Samson has for the first time in over a decade been a consistent performer for his IPL side but there is no way his No. 3 batting slot is going to get him a place in the India team.

Another school of thought is that someone like Samson, who has 25 T20Is under his belt but an average of just 20 and a strike rate of around 135, should not be considered based on just one good IPL season.

In case of Rahul, it can be said that one senior member of the coaching staff will certainly go all out to push for his inclusion but many believe that the stylish right-handed batter's approach in T20 cricket remains archaic.

However, he is still considered a better bet than Samson at No. 5 or 6 on slowish Caribbean tracks.

The other option, Jitesh Sharma, is in very poor form, while Dhruv Jurel hasn't got a chance to keep wickets. During the last game in Lucknow, he did get an opportunity to bat long and scored a fifty.

Left-handed batter Tilak Varma, who is also a handy off-spinner, remains an option along with pacer Sandeep Sharma, the Punjab veteran whose slower variations at the death have played a big role in Rajasthan Royals' surge to the top of the IPL table.

Indian Googled "How To Kill Instantly" Before Stabbing Ex Girlfriend In UK

The Hyderabad man who slashed his ex-girlfriend's throat before stabbing her nine times at a London restaurant in 2022 searched for ways to "kill a human instantly with a knife", his online search history shows.

Sriram Ambarla, a 25-year-old from Hyderabad attacked his ex-girlfriend Sona Biju, 23, at the restaurant where she worked after threatening to murder her if she did not agree to marry him.

When Ms Biju turned him down by saying that she "did not want to live by his rules", Ambarla grabbed her by the neck and began stabbing her. She survived the vicious attack but had to spent a month at a hospital in a critical condition.

Ambarla has been found guilty and sentenced to 16 years in jail in London.

During his sentencing hearing, the court was told that moments before Ambarla attacked, he searched online for “What happens if a foreigner murders someone in the UK”, “How easy is it to kill someone with a knife” and “How to kill a human instantly with a knife.”

“Jealous, possessive, and determined”

The 2022 attack came after Ambarla manipulated and physically and mentally abused Ms Biju for years, the court was told. The two began dating in 2017 after they met at a Hyderabad college.

However, the relationship quickly turned abusive, leading to their split around 2019 during which Ambarla used threats of self-harm to control Ms Biju. He repeatedly showed up at her house unexpectedly and tried to blackmail her into marrying him, the victim said.

In 2022, both Ambarla and Ms Biju moved to UK in 2022 to pursue a master's degree at the University of East London but the abuse continued. Ambarla would regularly contact the restaurant she worked at to talk to her and order food in hopes that she would deliver it to his house.

Weeks after they moved, he visited the restaurant, where Ms Biju served him food, treating him just like any other patron. He sat there looking through his phone in an unsettling manner, she said.

Moments later, he approached her and repeated his offer to marry her or else he would kill her. When she refused, he took out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly. He told the police that he snapped when he overheard her talking about wanting to celebrate the breakup.

Hardik Brutally Reminds MI Stars About 'Game Awareness' After DC Defeat

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya said he wanted batters to take chances in the middle overs and claimed MI were backing themselves to chase down the score in the end against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. Fraser-McGurk equalled his own record for the fastest fifty in IPL 2024, smashing 87 off 27 balls to lay the groundwork for a massive total. DC scored 257 in 20 overs, with cameos from Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, and Tristan Stubbs. MI seemed to be always behind the chase, and Tilak Varma's brave effort was insufficient as Delhi prevailed by 10 runs. MI suffered their sixth loss of the season, jeopardising their playoff ambitions significantly.

Speaking after the match, Pandya stated that the game was becoming increasingly close.

"This game is becoming more and more closer. It (the difference) used to be a couple of overs, now it's becoming a couple of balls. Because of the kind of games and how the bowlers are under pressure, we backed ourselves to do it. If I had to pick something out, we could have taken a couple of more chances in the middle overs," Pandya said in a post-match presentation.

Pandya defended the decision to bowl first in their loss to DC on Saturday. Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first because he wanted to know what target they would be chasing. However, the plan quickly backfired, as DC got off to a flying start thanks to Jake Fraser-McGurk.

"The left-handers could have probably gone after Axar a little bit, it's something we missed out on in terms of game awareness," Pandya said.

Pandya went on to compliment Fraser-McGurk on his knock and stated that he would not have altered anything about the toss.

"It was quite amazing the way he (Fraser-McGurk) batted, he took calculated risks, he played the field really well. It shows the fearlessness of youth. (If he would've done something different at the toss) not really." he added.

Talking about the match, Fraser-McGurk's powerful knock, followed by Rasikh Dar Salam, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed's supercharged pace attack, helped Delhi Capitals (DC) defeat Mumbai Indians by 10 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

Rasikh was the pick for the home side, he came on as an impact sub and picked up 3 for 34 in this high-scoring affair, while Mukesh also returned with a three-wicket haul. For MI, Tilak Varma scored 63 runs, while skipper Hardik Pandya scored 46 for MI.

Earlier put to bat first, explosive knocks by DC batters Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, and Shai Hope guided the team to a mammoth total of 257/4 against the five-time champions Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians will next play against LSG on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Explained: Why Is South Korea Reportedly Banning iPhones For The Military

The South Korean military is considering a comprehensive ban on iPhones within its buildings, citing concerns about potential leaks of sensitive information through voice recordings. The decision came after joint meetings held by the army, navy, and air force headquarters, with nationalistic motives also playing a role in favouring homegrown brands over foreign ones, The Korea Herald reported.

Korean Air Force issues directive

The Korean Air Force took the lead in enforcing the widespread ban. In an internal directive issued on April 11, it instructed its personnel to stop using iPhones inside the facilities.

The ban also named other devices capable of recording and sharing voice recordings beyond third-party app controls. In addition to iPhones, other products, including Apple Watches, are also reportedly included in the ban.

The military document stresses the importance of blocking voice recording in all communication scenarios within military buildings, whether formal or informal.

Are Androids banned too?

Android-based devices, particularly those manufactured by Samsung, are exempt from the ban within the South Korean military.

The ban will reportedly extend across the entire South Korean military, with the army reportedly testing similar restrictions. While restrictions on smart devices in secure facilities are common, implementing a total ban is unusual.

How the ban helps local brands

The decision seems to favour local brands such as Samsung, but there still appear to be doubts regarding how well the current security measures work and if they're consistent. If enforced across all military units, the ban would impact nearly 500,000 personnel within the South Korean military.

"I Can't Breathe": Black Man Dies After US Cops Pin Him Down, Kneel On Neck

Ohio police released video of a Black man who died at a local hospital after repeatedly telling officers "I can't breathe" as they pinned him to the floor of a bar and handcuffed him, evoking memories of the killing of George Floyd in 2020.

In body camera video released on Thursday by the Canton Police Department, officers are seen apprehending the man, identified as Frank Tyson, 53, who was suspected of leaving the scene of a single-car accident on April 18.

The Canton Police Department was not immediately available for comment on the video, which was posted online by several local media outlets, or to confirm details about the incident.

The 36-minute clip begins with a patrol officer coming upon a car that had struck an electrical pole and a bystander telling him that the driver of the vehicle had fled into a nearby tavern.

Officers are then seen entering the establishment, where they find Tyson standing at the bar. An altercation ensued as they attempted to grab his arms, and he repeatedly shouts "They are trying to kill me" and "Call the sheriff."

Officers wrestled Tyson to the ground and handcuffed him. One of them is seen placing a knee on his back near his neck for about 30 seconds.

Tyson can be heard repeatedly saying, "I can't breathe. I can't... get off my neck," as an officer yells "Calm down" and "You're fine" before standing up.

The video next shows Tyson lying motionless, face down on the floor for about six minutes, while officers speak with bar patrons.

The officers then check on Tyson, who appears to be unresponsive. They can be heard saying, "Is he breathing?" and "Does he have a pulse?"

Eight minutes after the officers handcuffed Tyson, they remove the cuffs and begin CPR. Paramedics then arrive at the scene and take Tyson out of the bar on a stretcher and into a waiting ambulance, the video shows.

Tyson died at a local hospital, according to WKYC, an NBC affiliate in Cleveland. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. The official cause of death has not been determined.

The incident is reminiscent of Floyd's deadly encounter with Minneapolis police four years ago. A cellphone video of Floyd's killing, which went viral, unleashed a wave of protests worldwide against police brutality and racism.

It shows a white officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes as Floyd, who was Black, begs for his life, repeating "I can't breathe" before falling silent.

Chauvin and three of his fellow officers was eventually convicted of manslaughter and other crimes.

The Canton Police Department officers involved in the Tyson incident were identified as Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch, WKYC reported.

Both were placed on administrative leave and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (OCI) is investigating the incident, the station reported.

Calls to the OCI were not immediately returned.

TikTok Artists, Advertisers To Stick With App Until "Door Slams Shut"

Ban or no ban, TikTok's partners in the music and advertising world plan to stick with the massively popular short-form video platform until the bitter end, seven industry leaders told Reuters.

The U.S. Senate passed a bill late on Tuesday that gives Chinese tech firm ByteDance up to a year to divest TikTok or the app will be banned altogether. President Joe Biden has signaled he would sign the bill, capping a four-year battle over concerns the Chinese government could influence content or access user data.

TikTok has rivaled larger companies such as Meta Platforms for user attention and ad budgets, and its cultural power is reflected in its ability to catapult emerging artists into viral hits, changing how young people discover music.

As long as TikTok's users remain engaged with the app, "advertisers will ride it all the way until the door slams shut," said Craig Atkinson, CEO of digital marketing agency Code3.

Adamm Miguest, CEO and founder of Rapid Launch Media, which creates marketing campaigns designed to make songs go viral, said he will advise clients to stay on TikTok as long as they can.

Even Universal Music, whose artists' songs disappeared from TikTok in March as licensing talks stalled, has resumed negotiations in recent weeks, according to two people close to the discussions. The talks reflect the realization that, whatever the outcome of the legislative process, TikTok is not going away tomorrow, one of the sources said. Universal declined to comment.

The app's importance is also underscored by how superstar Taylor Swift, a Universal artist, defied her label by putting her music back on TikTok just weeks later.

"I think we have to look and ask, why did Taylor Swift do that? Even she recognizes the power that TikTok yields," said Johnny Cloherty, CEO of Songfluencer, a creative marketing firm that has worked with artists like Dolly Parton and Miranda Lambert.

Musicians aim to get songs circulating on TikTok or other platforms such as Instagram Reels and then have users listen to the music on streaming services. TikTok posts are far more likely to lead to streams, Miguest said, who has worked with musicians including Muni Long and Sueco.

"From what I've seen, you have to get 10 to 20 times the amount of posts on Reels for it to even come close to translating to what you might get on TikTok," he said.

TikTok also beats Google's YouTube as the most common music discovery source for teens in the U.S., said Tatiana Cirisano, a senior music industry analyst for Midia Research.

TikTok has long said it has not and never would share U.S. user data with the Chinese government. It is expected to challenge the bill.s

"This is the beginning, not the end of this long process," TikTok told staff on Saturday, Reuters previously reported.

"This unconstitutional law is a TikTok ban, and we will challenge it in court," a spokesperson said on Wednesday. "We believe the facts and the law are clearly on our side, and we will ultimately prevail."

The company did not respond to a request for further comment.

RIVALS ON THE HUNT

Other tech platforms are waiting in the wings for TikTok's users and ad revenue.

YouTube has been particularly aggressive in going after TikTok marketing budgets, asking ad agencies to test one of its advertising products to see how it performs against TikTok specifically, according to one advertising agency director, who declined to be named to discuss conversations with the platforms.

Recent surveys have shown that Gen-Z are increasingly using TikTok to search for information and businesses rather than Google. Google did not respond to request for comment.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek told investors on Tuesday that short-form video content is "a big focus of ours," which would make its way to the service's music streaming product in 2024.

Even with their commitment to the platform, advertisers are beginning to shift from their theoretical contingency plans, which have long been in place, to actively testing plan Bs, Atkinson said.

"If we imagine a continuum of 'maybe this will happen someday,' to the idea that TikTok will be turned off, we've moved one step over," he said.

Both advertisers and music artists have taken steps to test and diversify their strategies across other platforms, including Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. "But none of them have quite garnered the attention that TikTok did," said Gabriel Lister, managing partner of record label Independent Co.

"The question is whether any of those platforms could replace TikTok's cultural heft - I don't believe it would simply be a case of TikTok users migrating over to the competitors," said Midia's Cirisano.

Amid the uncertainty, TikTok will host a glitzy evening presentation for advertisers in New York City next week as part of an annual event organized by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), a trade group.

There were no changes to the plans as of Tuesday, the IAB said.

Revanth Reddy's Loan Waiver Promise With Bizarre Attack On KCR

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today reiterated his promise to waive farmer loans upto Rs 2 lakh, "come what may",. Then came a bizarre addition -- "even if KCR (his predecessor K Chandrasekhar Rao) were to die by hanging in his farm house, I will waive farmer loans by August 15," he thundered.

Revanth Reddy was addressing a meeting in his Kodangal assembly constituency, which falls in his native Mahbubnagar constituency.

His comments come on the eve of Mr Rao, the chief of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, starting his Lok Sabha campaign. The journey begins tomorrow by a special bus.

Even before that, Mr Rao has been touring drought-hit districts, meeting with farmers in distress to tell them that they were much better off when he was Chief Minister. There was no shortage of water and farmers harvested plenty, he told them.

Revanth Reddy's promise of waiving Rs 2 lakh loans of farmers before August 15 was made two days ago in Bhongir. BRS leader and nephew of KCR, T Harish Rao, had asked yesterday whether Mr Reddy would resign if he was unable to fulfil his loan waiver promise.

Today, it was Revanth Reddy's turn to retort and he asked if KCR would disband his party if he kept his word on waiving farmer loans by August 15.

"Your uncle knows better than you that Revanth does what he says and keeps his word," the Chief Minister said.

This is not the first time Revanth Reddy is talking about hanging Mr Rao. A few days ago, he said it would not be wrong to hang KCR and his son for the way in which they had allegedly looted real estate in Hyderabad.

On April 6, when Rahul Gandhi was in Tukkuguda, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy had attacked KCR, declaring that he would send him to jail. He would also build a 2BHK for Mr Rao in Cherlapally so he could cool his heels inside with his family, Mr Reddy said.

In 2015, just an year after KCR became Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, then with the TDP, went to jail in a cash-for-votes scam. He had to come out on bail to attend his daughter's engagement ceremony. Revanth Reddy had vowed revenge against KCR when he came out of jail.

"No Warranty For Modi's Guarantee": Revanth Reddy On Congress's Chances

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed confidence his party the Congress will win 14 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Mr Reddy became Chief Minister in December 2023 after the Congress defeated K Chandrashekar Rao's Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

"Every medicine has an expiry date," Mr Reddy told reporters in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru during an informal interaction, adding Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lose the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The Chief Minister did not tell whether his confidence comes from the party winning the assembly election in the southern state.

The BJP and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have been against the well-being and development of southern states, the Chief Minister alleged.

"There is no warranty for Modi's guarantees," Mr Reddy said.

He dared the Opposition BRS to win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP may stand to gain from the votes that the BRS will lose, but the Congress will still be able to take at least 14 seats, Mr Reddy said.

He said the Congress party, unlike the BJP and the RSS that have been discriminating against southern states, has always been inclusive by appointing leaders from these states to key cabinet and party positions, even when the Congress had swept the Hindi heartland.

Though Mr Reddy criticised Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM of allegedly colluding with the BJP to polarise voters during election season, he admitted that in a city as Hyderabad where terror groups have tried to radicalise young Muslims, the presence of a political party as AIMIM helped in containing radicalisation.

Mr Reddy recently campaigned in Kerala too. He said the BJP will likely be restricted to a maximum of 20 among the 130 seats in the southern states. In the northern states, the BJP's numbers will decrease from what it had got in 2019.

The elections are being held in seven phases. Votes will be counted on June 4.

On CCTV, UP Businessman Pushes Man Off 5-Star Hotel's Terrace After Fight

A pre-wedding party turned violent when a businessman pushed a man who had an argument with his son off the terrace of a five-star hotel in Uttar Pradesh. Ex Pakistan PM Imran Khan's Party Accuses Army Of Kidnapping His Nephew

Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's party on Saturday alleged that his nephew Hassan Niazi has been "abducted" from military custody and shifted to an undisclosed location to put pressure on him.

The development comes days after Mr Khan, 71, alleged that the Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir was directly responsible for the imprisonment of his wife Bushra Bibi.

Over 100 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers have been in the Army's custody facing military trials for their alleged involvement in attacking key military installations in May last year following the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case.

Mr Khan, the founder of PTI, is facing more than 100 cases and has been lodged at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for over eight months now.

"We strongly condemn the abduction of Imran Khan's nephew Hassan Niazi and another young PTI leader Ibad Farooq from military captivity. We want the Supreme Court to ensure their immediate release and hold kidnappers accountable," PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan said in a statement.

The spokesperson voiced great concerns over the shifting of both PTI leaders Hassan to an unknown place and said that around 100 innocent citizens have been kept in illegal military custody under the guise of a "May 9 false flag operation", who were being subjected to political revenge.

"The inhuman treatment being meted out with the young PTI leaders is purely political because they have been facing the worst state oppression and brutality courageously for the last 10 months," he said.

He said that the abduction of Niazi and Farooq was an open attack on the sanctity of law and justice and a violation of basic human and constitutional rights. "The trial of civilians under military laws is unconstitutional." The spokesperson further said it is shameful and condemnable to target Mr Khan's nephew Hassan Niazi as political revenge to put pressure on the unlawfully incarcerated PTI founding leader.

He went on to say that coercive and shameful tactics are being used against Ibad Farooq to punish his brother for contesting by-elections and to keep him away from the electoral process.

The spokesperson demanded that the Supreme Court of Pakistan should take notice of the enforced disappearance and abduction of Hasan Niazi and Ibad Farooq, and ensure their earliest recovery and hold the abductors accountable.

Earlier, Mr Khan alleged that General Munir was directly involved in the sentence handed down to his wife Bushra Bibi.

"If anything happens to my wife, I will not spare Asim Munir; I will not spare Asim Munir as long as I am alive. I will expose his unconstitutional and illegal steps," he had threatened.

UP Man Books Cab From Salman Khan's Home Under Gangster's Name, Arrested

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for booking a cab from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's home in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, said police on Friday.

According to Mumbai police, the accused has been identified as Rohit Tyagi, a 20-year-old man from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Sharing details, police said that the accused had booked a cab in the name of Lawrence Bishnoi from Galaxy Apartment, the house of actor Salman Khan, to the Bandra Police Station.

"When the cab driver reached Galaxy Apartment at Salman Khan's house and asked the watchman there about the booking, the watchman who was stunned at first, immediately informed about the booking to the nearby Bandra Police Station," said police.

Acting on the same, Bandra Police of Mumbai interrogated the cab driver and tracked the information about the person who booked the cab online.

"The person who booked the cab turned out to be a 20-year-old student from Ghaziabad, identified as Rohit Tyagi," said the police.

The police further said that during the investigation it was revealed that the accused had booked the cab in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as a prank.

The police registered a case against the accused and arrested him from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

He was thereafter brought Mumbai and presented before the court after which he was sent to the custody of Bandra Police for two days.

Further details into the matter are awaited.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Kutch Police arrested the two accused persons and handed them to the Mumbai Crime Branch. Later, a city court sent the two accused to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until April 25 in connection with the firing incident.

The accused, identified as Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21) from Bihar, were presented before the court after a medical examination.

The two men, who came on a motorbike, fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, around 5 am on Sunday morning and fled.CCTV footage showed that both accused sported caps and carried backpacks.

The clip also showed them firing in the direction of the actor's home.

After the arrest of the accused, Kutch DSP AR Zankant said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Notably, since November 2022, Salman Khan's security level has been elevated to Y-Plus after threats from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar.

The actor was also authorised to carry a personal firearm and has also acquired a new armoured vehicle for added protection.

On Monday, Salman's brother Arbaaz Khan issued a statement on the family's behalf, saying they all have been affected due to the 'disturbing' firing incident.

He also shared that the family was fully cooperating with the Mumbai Police in the ongoing probe into the incident.

Ashutosh Sharma - PBKS' Explosive Batter Who Once Sank Into Depression

Punjab Kings batter Ashutosh Sharma slammed a sensational 28-ball-61 but it ended up in the losing effort during the IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians on Thursday. It was a valiant effort from the 25-year-old who has shown glimpses of brilliance in the competition this year and his knock took PBKS extremely close to victory despite losing four wickets early. His knock comprised of 2 fours and 7 sixes at an impressive strike rate of 217.86 which took his tournament tally to 156 runs in 4 matches. This was the not first time that he played an explosive knock as he stitched together a brilliant partnership with Shashank Singh to complete a brilliant victory over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.

This was a huge moment for a cricketer who went through a tough phase in his life from 2020 to 2022 when he was not clear about where his career was headed. "There was a time when I wasn't even allowed to get a feel of the cricket ground," Ashutosh revealed during that period of time.

The youngster had an alleged falling out with then Madhya Pradesh head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

"I would go to the gym and retire to my hotel room. I was sinking into depression and no one told me what my fault was. A new coach had joined Madhya Pradesh and he had strong likes and dislikes and despite scoring 90 odd in 45 balls in a trial match, I was dropped from the team," Ashutosh said.

"I had three fifties in six Mushtaq Ali games in the previous season yet I wouldn't even be allowed to go to the ground. I was very depressed," the 25-year-old told reporters.

During that time, it was a job offer from Railways that proved to be his saviour and during the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the batter equalled Yuvraj Singh's record of scoring the fastest T20 half-century when he slammed 50 in just 11 deliveries against Arunachal Pradesh.

That was the knock that got him noticed by Punjab Kings batting coach Sanjay Bangar and he was picked up by Punjab Kings in the auction ahead of IPL 2024 for the base price of Rs 20 lakh.

India Opened Up Its Market That Benefited American Farmers: US

After resolving half a dozen WTO disputes last year, India opened up its market for several US products which have benefited American farmers, a top Biden administration official told lawmakers on Tuesday.

The steps taken by India have given more market access for turkey, duck, blueberries, and cranberries benefiting farmers from several American states, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai told members of the House Committee on Ways and Means on President Biden's 2024 Trade Policy Agenda.

"Last June, India and the United States terminated six WTO disputes, and India agreed to remove retaliatory tariffs on several US products," Tai said.

"This means improved access for chickpeas, lentils, almonds, walnuts, and apples benefiting farmers across the country, including in Michigan, Oregon, and Washington," she said.

"Additionally, in September, India and the United States resolved our final outstanding WTO dispute, and India agreed to reduce tariffs on several US products. This means more market access for turkey, duck, blueberries, and cranberries benefiting farmers in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin," Tai told lawmakers.

'Spends Summers In London': GN Azad's 'Tourist' Jibe At Omar Abdullah

Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) president Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday alleged that former chief minister Omar Abdullah comes to the valley only as a "tourist," while he spends summers in London and winters in warmer climates abroad.

Mr Azad made the sally as he hit the campaign trail in Doda as a star campaigner, canvassing for party candidate and former minister G M Saroori.

The campaigning in Udhampur-Kathua Lok Sabha constituency has become intense with the exchange of personal attacks by rival politicians.

Congress's Lal Singh is pitted against Union minister and BJP candidate Jitendra Singh in the Udhampur-Kathua parliamentary constituency, which goes to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election on April 19.

DPAP's G M Saroori is among 10 others in the fray.

"Omar sahib ... You visit your maternal grandfather's house during summers in London and some hot country during winters and you come here as a tourist," Mr Azad took a dig at the National Conference vice president in his speech.

Omar Abdullah is also on a campaign trail in Doda district canvassing for Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress, in capacity as a partner in the INDIA bloc.

Lal Singh is contesting for the fourth time from Udhampur Lok Sabha seat.

Mr Azad alleged that Mr Omar used to visit Chenab Valley for five minutes and hasn't come to the area even once in the last several years.

"Have you seen his face in Doda, Bhaderwah or Kishtwar during his tenure as CM? Has he been here for the last 10 years?" Mr Azad said, addressing the public.

He also questioned the whereabouts of "political tourists" during the region's years of hardship and criticised the parties for their silence on issues like land eviction order and the abolition of Article 370.

He accused the NC of tacitly supporting the BJP's agenda for its own interests, over the welfare of the people.

"Where were these political tourists in Chenab Valley during these ten years of people's suffering? Did they raise their voices against land eviction or Article 370 in Parliament?

"They seem to be aiding the BJP in every action. Their leaders are too busy appeasing the BJP, just check their statements. They are the ones who declared their doors open for NDA, not me. So who's the BJP's A team? It's NC," Mr Azad said.

The former Congress leader said that despite such restrictions as the Public Safety Act, Omar Abdullah and "his cohorts" have continued to live luxuriously.

Mr Azad, who is also a former J-K chief minister, said that unlike some, he does not indulge in leisurely vacations and is committed to the alleviation of the suffering of the people.

Mr Azad questioned the Congress party's stance on Article 370 and said he always advocated for Article 370 and 35A, as well as the restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that instead of confronting the BJP, the Congress seems to focus on targeting his party.

"Congress is silent on Article 370, they didn't even speak when I was in Congress. Only I know how I managed to speak on Article 370 in parliament," he said.

6,6,6 - Dhoni Turns Back The Clock With Explosive Batting vs Hardik. Watch

The crowd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai were left stunned as MS Dhoni slammed Hardik Pandya for three back-to-back sixes during the IPL 2024 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Dhoni came out to bat with four balls to go in the CSK innings and ended up scoring 20 runs at a strike rate of 500. Hardik had no answers to Dhoni's explosive batting as the all-rounder was slammed all over the ground with the crowd cheering every shot from the CSK star.

The first delivery from Hardik to Dhoni was a slower one and the batter quickly read the length and heaved it for a massive six over long-off. The bowler followed it up with a length ball but the result was the same as it sailed over wide long-on for the second six in as many balls for Dhoni.

The next delivery was the worst of the lot as Hardik ended up producing a low full toss on the pads and Dhoni just flicked it effortlessly over deep square leg for his third six of the match.

Dhoni was looking to hit the final ball of the over for a maximum as well but he ended up mishitting it slightly and settled for a double as CSK's total crossed 200 thanks to the late onslaught.

Coming to the match, Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 66 while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a brilliant 69 to take CSK to a big total of 206 for the loss of four wickets. The MI bowlers did not look in control for the majority of the innings and Hardik Pandya was the only one to take two wickets.

"Around about par (total). The pitch gets better as the night gets on because of dew. That's what happened in the last game. Very beneficial (to be alongside Bumrah). He (Bumrah) is probably the best in the world in this format, so learn from him. I'm loving it (the IPL). Great conditions here for cricket and you need to be at your best," Mumbai Indians pacer Gerald Coetzee said during the innings break.

According to the list, the party has fielded veteran politician JP Agarwal from the Chandni Chowk seat and youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar from the North East Delhi seat.

Mr Kumar will be pitted against BJP's Manoj Tiwari, the sole BJP candidate not replaced in the national capital.

In Punjab, the party renominated its sitting MPs Gurjeet Singh Aujla from Amritsar and Amar Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib (SC) Lok Sabha seat.

Former MP Dharvir Gandhi will be contesting from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat. His candidature comes mere days after he joined the Congress leaving the Aam Aadmi Party.

Video: Couple Performs Cop's 'Aarti' Over "Inaction". This Happens Next

A couple in Madhya Pradesh reached a police station and performed 'aarti' of an official, not as a mark of respect but to vent their frustration over the police's alleged inaction in a theft complaint. The couple even tried to garland the inspector and put a shawl on him as a symbolic gesture to embarrass him. The video of the incident that happened last week (April 6) is being widely shared on social media. Town inspector JP Patel, the focal point of the drama at the police station, was seen leaving his chamber after unsuccessfully trying to contain the situation.

The charade, however, has landed the couple - Anuradha and Kuldeep Soni -  has led to a police case and even drawn flak from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

'Action Meant To Insult Me'

The inspector said the police were still probing the theft case and criticised the couple's action against him. "It was meant to insult me and obstruct the administrative work".

"They recorded the incident at the police station and did a Facebook Live without any permission. We asked them to sit and discuss the matter. But, they didn't listen," said Mr Patel.

'Theft' Case That Sparked Police Station Drama

The couple, who has jewellery shops in Rewa and Mauganj districts, recently accused two of their servants - Arpit and Mukesh - of theft after nearly four kilograms of silver allegedly went missing. They also filed a complaint at the Rewa police station in January this year.

The accused, however, managed to go into hiding and later obtained bail from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Sonis were allegedly upset as the accused seemed to get away with the alleged crime and they blamed the police for it.

The police have now registered a case against the couple for their unconventional way of protest. Even the High Court took note of the incident inside the police station, terming it as inappropriate.

Congress Fields Virbhadra Singh's Son Against Kangana Ranaut In Himachal

The stage is set for a battle royale in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat as the Congress on Saturday pitted state minister Vikramaditya Singh, the titular king of the erstwhile princely state of Bushahr, against BJP candidate and actor Kangana Ranaut.

Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh is the son of six-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh and Pratibha Singh, the sitting MP from Mandi and the Congress' state unit president.

Historically, the Mandi constituency has favoured scions of erstwhile princely states, electing royals in 13 out of 19 elections, including two bypolls since 1952.

Vikramaditya Singh, the two-time MLA from the Shimla (rural) assembly segment, is not new in the parliamentary constituency as his father and mother each won the seat thrice. In the 2021 Lok Sabha bypoll to the seat, Mr Singh had campaigned extensively for his mother.

Even before his candidature was announced, Vikramaditya Singh was involved in a spat with the actor-politician of Bollywood film 'Queen' fame with neither pulling any punches.

Last Thursday, Kangana Ranaut launched a blistering attack on Vikramaditya Singh and said, "This is not the estate of your father or grandfather that you will threaten me and send me back.

The BJP candidate's retaliation came in response to Vikramaditya Singh's jibe a few days earlier about her reported comments over beef-eating.

"I pray to Lord Ram to give her wisdom and hope she goes back pure from 'Dev Bhoomi' Himachal to Bollywood because she will not win the elections as she knows nothing about the people of Himachal," Mr Singh had said.

She asked why he was not showing evidence of her consuming beef.

"I have made my name in the film industry without the help of my father and mother... I want to join politics and serve the people," she said and asserted that politics is an expression of service and anyone from a king to a beggar is entitled to that expression.

The factors working in favour of Kangana Ranaut are former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and senior BJP leader Jai Ram Thakur's hold over Mandi and that the party has won all the nine assembly segments under the parliament constituency.

BJP leader Khushal Thakur, a Kargil war hero who lost to Pratibha Singh by a margin of 7,490 votes in Lok Sabha bypolls held in November 2021, has rendered his support to Ms Ranaut. "There are over one lakh ex-servicemen in this Parliament constituency", he had told the PTI earlier.

Moreover, BJP leader and the titular king of Kullu Maheshwar Singh, who earlier opposed Ms Ranaut's candidature, has extended his support to her.

Of the 17 assembly segments under the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, eight are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled castes.

Since 1952, the parliamentary seat has been represented by Raj Kumai Amrit Kaur of Kapurthala dynasty and Raja Joginder Sen Bahadur of the princely state of Mandi once each, Raja Lalit Sen of Suket twice, Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh thrice each and Maheshwar Singh thrice.

Three-time MP from Mandi and former Union minister Sukh Ram, two-time winner Ram Swaroop and Ganga Singh were the exceptions and did not hail from royal families.

Parties From These Nations Accept BJP Invite To Witness Its Poll Campaign

Diplomats posted in the country and 25 political parties across the globe have been invited by the ruling BJP to come and witness first-hand the party's campaign for the all-important Lok Sabha polls.

India starts voting in a seven-phase general election on April 19. Votes will be counted on June 4.

Confirmations to witness BJP campaign have come from 15 countries, which includes Nepal, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and some African countries.

"For the first time in the history of electoral politics of the country, BJP has invited various political parties across the globe to come to India and have a first-hand experience of BJP's campaign. We have invited more than 25 political parties and there's confirmation from 15 of them, mostly in the neighbourhood but also in some far-east Asian countries as well as from African countries," says Vijay Chauthaiwale, who leads the BJP's foreign affairs department.

Unemployment and inflation are the main concerns of Indian voters but Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong leadership and India's rising global stature will likely help his re-election bid, says The Hindu newspaper citing Lokniti-CSDS survey.

"Entire idea is to show the breadth and depth of BJP campaign that has resulted in the success of party in consecutive elections, be it assembly of Lok Sabha. We are looking forward to welcome them to India. They will be going to various parts of the country and we will show them various facets of BJP campaign," says Mr Chauthaiwale, who was part of PM Modi's 2014 election war room.

"In addition, we will also will be taking various diplomats in India from various countries and again we will show them BJP campaign. We had done this in past during assembly elections. But it will be first time for the Lok Sabha polls," he adds.

PM Modi's BJP, which is aiming to win a third term, won 303 of 543 seats in the 2019 general elections.

The BJP's push faces serious headwinds in the south. Holding repeated rallies across the south, PM Modi has sought to win new voters, offering his "topmost respect" to the south's Tamil culture and language.

In the last polls, the BJP won just over a fifth of seats -- 29 out of 129 -- across the five southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

In wooing the south, the BJP hopes to wrest the credentials of being a truly pan-India party from its already humbled rival, the opposition Congress Party.

PM Modi's image, bolstered by India's presidency of the G20 last year, has rested widely on his claims of steering the country into becoming one of the world's fastest-growing economies.

Mentally Challenged Boy Reunites With Parents Due To Pendant With QR Code

A pendant with a QR code helped police reunite a mentally challenged 12-year-old boy with his parents, a Mumbai police official said on Friday.

The child was spotted wandering in Colaba in the southern part of the city on Thursday afternoon, he said.

"The child was not able to tell anything cohesively to people who approached him after realising he may be lost and in distress. One of them brought him to a policeman. An alert about a missing person was sent to all police stations but in vain," the official said.

"One of the police personnel found a pendant around the child's neck. He found a QR (quick response) code inside, which when scanned revealed a phone number. It belonged to an NGO that works for mentally unwell children," he said.

A functionary of the NGO told police the child was a resident of Worli and his parents were looking for him since morning, the official added.

"The child was reunited with his father at the police station some time later. It was great relief to us that we could get the child safely back with his parents," the official said.

Backpacker Trapped In 'Hellhole' Bolivian Prison, Family Appeals For Help

John Henshaw, a British backpacker from Atherton, Greater Manchester, is facing dire conditions in San Pedro prison, Bolivia, after being arrested on drug trafficking charges, which his family claims are false, according to The Metro.

Henshaw was reportedly detained at La Paz International Airport in February for possessing a small amount of cannabis. He now finds himself incarcerated in San Pedro, a notorious prison known for its harsh living conditions and inmate-run operations, reported the news outlet.

The 39-year-old lacks access to basic necessities like a bed, clean water, and consistent food. He sleeps on the floor alongside dozens of other inmates and shares toilets with a significantly larger group.

San Pedro's overcrowding is another challenge. Originally built for 600 inmates, it now houses roughly 3,000. Living conditions vary depending on financial resources; some prisoners can even purchase "suites" with amenities like beds and Wi-Fi.

Henshaw's family expresses deep concern for his well-being. He has reportedly suffered from illness and weight loss due to factors such as insect infestations and inadequate nutrition.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support John's legal fight and provide him with essential items. So far, it has raised nearly 4,318 pounds of the 6,000-pound goal.

"John has found himself in one of the worst prisons in South America. He's been thrown in San Pedro, La Paz, Bolivia, which is featured on an episode of "Worlds Toughest Jails"," mentions the post.

Henshaw's ex-partner, Toni Rimmer, is actively involved in his legal efforts from the UK. Both she and their daughter, Kaitlyn, are desperately worried about his safety and long for his return home.

Arvind Kejriwal Gave Orders To Atishi From Jail Through Lawyers: Court

A Delhi court on Wednesday dismissed an application moved by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in a money laundering case, seeking more time with his lawyers and said relevant rules are equally applicable to him and other inmates and that he allegedly used legal consultations allowed by the court to issue certain administrative directions.

Special judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja, dismissing Mr Kejriwal's application for five meetings with his lawyers every week, said he failed to satisfy the court that he had been using the two permitted legal meetings per week solely for the purpose of discussing the pending litigations with his counsel.

“The status report/note filed by the ED indicates that the applicant had dictated certain directions for being passed on to the Water Minister, to one of his lawyers (whose name he refused to disclose to the ED), during the course of a legal meeting. It thus appears that the applicant is not even utilizing the permitted two legal interviews per week with his counsels solely for discussing his pending litigations and has rather used the allotted time for purposes other than legal interviews in the aforesaid manner,” the judge said.

The judge cited a Delhi High Court judgment, which said every citizen of India is entitled to protection of law, which will also equally apply to him.

The judge dismissed Mr Kejriwal's submission that about 35 cases were pending against him across the country for which he needed more time with his lawyer for consultation, saying his application was bereft of necessary details of cases, including their number, the nature and stage of proceedings.

"Though, in the course of arguments, it was submitted by counsel for applicant that there are about 30-35 litigations regarding which the applicant needs to have consultations and discussions with his counsels, but, there does not appear to be any objective criteria for assessing if five meetings with his lawyers per week would be sufficient to address the concern of the applicant or that two meetings, which are permitted as per jail rules, are insufficient for this purpose," the judge said.

"In the absence of any such objective criteria for assessment, the prayer of the applicant for five legal interviews with his lawyers per week not only appears to be whimsical but also seems to have been made without any statistical basis or objective standards for assessment," the judge said.

The ED had opposed Mr Kejriwal's application, saying special privileges cannot be extended to him merely because he wants to run the government from inside the jail.

It had alleged that legal interviews were being misused by Kejriwal for purposes other than consultation.

Arvind Kejriwal issued some instructions on matters related to governance from jail and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) asserted he will run the government from there.

"Give Us Documents": Karnataka Lokayukta To DK Shivakumar In Assets Case

The Karnataka Lokayukta has asked Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to submit documents in a disproportionate assets case against him it is investigating. The case was transferred to the Lokayukta after the Siddaraimah government withdrew the consent to the investigation by the Central agency, issued by the earlier BJP government.

"There has been a CBI case against you. The case has been transferred to the Lokayukta. During the CBI investigation you have submitted information and documents. Do submit the same documents and information to Lokayukta too," read the notice to Mr Shivakumar.

Mr Shivakumar has been accused of amassing assets worth Rs 74.93 crore disproportionate to his income. Mr Shivakumar has denied any wrongdoing and said he would fight the case "legally". The BJP, he repeatedly said, was harassing him by misusing central agencies.

Citing wrong procedure, the Siddaramaiah government withdrew consent for investigation after coming to power. The CBI has challenged the retraction in the High Court, which is hearing the case.

"The then Advocate General told me that my case could not be given to the CBI. I got the record of it through Right to Information. It was wrong for the Yediyurappa government to give it to the CBI. So our government withdrew the permission and gave it to the Lokayukta," Mr Shivakumar had said.

Last month, the Supreme Court dismissed a money laundering case against the Congress leader filed in 2018. The case was linked to allegations of tax evasion and hawala transactions worth crores.
