"Don't Run Away": Amit Shah Mocks Congress Over Exit Poll Boycott
The Congress's decision to skip exit poll debates has provided fresh ammunition to the BJP ahead of the seventh and final phase of the Lok abha election, in which the party is hoping for a historic third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the announcement by senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, both BJP chief JP Nadda and the party's chief strategist and Union Minister Amit Shah said it was obvious that the Opposition has conceded defeat.
In a Hindi post on X, formerly Twitter, Union Minister Amit Shah said, "Congress has come to know about its huge defeat, so with what face will it face the media and the public now? Therefore, Congress is running away from the exit polls. I want to tell the Congress party not to run away, face the defeat and introspect".
कांग्रेस को अपनी प्रचंड हार का पता चल गया है, तो अब किस मुँह से मीडिया और जनता को फेस करे? इसलिए, कांग्रेस एग्जिट पोल से भाग रही है।
— Amit Shah (Modi Ka Parivar) (@AmitShah) May 31, 2024
मैं कांग्रेस पार्टी से कहना चाहता हूँ कि भागो नहीं, हार का सामना करके आत्मचिंतन करो। pic.twitter.com/pxeT3Qw8wA
Objecting to Congress decision, Mr Nadda, in a post on X, said: "It doesn't behove India's Grand Old Party to behave like a child, whose toy has been taken away. One expects a certain level of maturity from the largest political party in the Opposition".
The Congress, he said, "opts out" when it doesn't expect the results to go in its favour. But the party, he added, shows up if it thinks it has even an outside chance.
"Their hypocrisy is not lost on anyone. Let no one in Phase 7 waste their votes on them," he said
He also said that by boycotting the Exit Poll exercise, Congress was questioning the rigorous exercise carried out by several professional agencies that work day and night to compile the figures.
Earlier today, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said once the voting is over, nothing can be gained through speculation.
"The results will be out on 4th June. Prior to that, we do not see any reason to indulge in speculation and slugfest for TRP," he said in a statement shared on X.
"The Indian National Congress will not participate in the debates on Exit Polls. The purpose of any debate should be to inform the people. We will happily partake in debates from 4th June onwards," Mr Khera added.
Voting will be held tomorrow to pick representatives for 57 seats across seven states and one Union Territory, which would conclude the massive seven-phase exercise to form the 19th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will take place on Tuesday.

Mercedes That Killed 2 Returned To Owner, Victim's Family Slams Cops
A speeding Mercedes C200 that killed two men on a two-wheeler in Nagpur on February 25 has been returned to the owner even as the investigation into the case is still open.
The car, being driven by a woman - identified as Ritika Maloo, collided with the side wall of the Ram Jhula bridge in the city before crashing into the two-wheeler and killing the rider and the pillion - Mohd Hussain Mustafa and Mohd Ateef Ziya.
Now, NDTV Marathi has traced the black Mercedes C200 parked on the road under a tow sign while the police are yet to arrest the woman accused of drunk driving, three months after the accident.
Mohammad Atiq, Mohd Ateef Ziya's brother, accompanied the NDTV team to where the car was parked and identified it as the one that killed his brother and another man. "The police were more concerned about returning the car that killed my brother instead of arresting the driver Ritika Maloo and her friend Madhuri Sarda. It is not okay, sir," he said.
"My family is still reeling under the shock of my brother's death three months ago. They are still grieving and with this, their wounds have once again been laid bare," he said.
According to media reports, Ms Maloo and her friend Ms Sarda were returning home from a club in the night when the accident happened. The two women fled the spot and the two men were rushed to the Mayo Hospital for treatment where they died.
The police scanned CCTV footage from the club and recovered the liquor bills as evidence.

"No Better Way To Serve Humanity, India": Major Set To Be Honoured By UN
Major Radhika Sen, a peacekeeper who served with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was pursuing a career in biotechnology before she joined the Indian Army. Major Sen said it was after she made the switch that she realised there was no better way for her to serve humanity and the country.
Speaking exclusively to NDTV, the Major, who will be honoured by the United Nations with the prestigious 2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award, also said that being part of the Indian Army made the challenges faced by her in the Congo easier because soldiers in the force work in different regions of the country and are exposed to different environments.
Major Sen will receive the award, which recognises a military peacekeeper who has best integrated a gender perspective into peacekeeping activities, from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Asked about the challenge of ensuring that peacekeepers under her command recognised the importance of gender and socio-cultural norms in the country, Major Sen, who served with the Organisation Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), said, "The country has a long history. It has its own culture. It has its own tradition. There are many socio-economic issues that happen. But, I would say, being a part of India, which is a culturally rich and a diverse country, and especially being a part of the Indian Army, helped.
"Because all my soldiers have been working in different regions of the country, and they have served in different terrains, they have seen different environments, it was not really challenging for me to have a team. I would say it was their support and cooperation which has motivated me and helped me to get the information and the concerns of the people better. So, (it was) because we are from India and the Indian Army gives you all the opportunity and exposure possible (that) it was easy for me," she asserted.
On rape and violence being used as an implement of warfare in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Major Sen said it is very important for peacekeeping forces to have a gender perspective because it helps build an inclusive and sustainable peace process.
"In any conflict, it is always the women and the girls who are more affected and who face increased risk of abuse. So, I would say, why should any human being suffer? As women peacekeepers, we try and address their concerns and encourage them to raise their voices," she said.
The officer explained that they realised that talking to the country's leadership wasn't enough and they began to speak to local communities to get a better idea of issues facing the people in the country.
"We had also involved ourselves into creating awareness about many topics that concern women, like women's health and education on sexual violence in conflict. We also engaged with people on creating employment training, like baking and tailoring for women and English training for children. So there were multiple things that we tried to do in order to engage with people which could help us address their concerns better," she said.
The major also spoke about misinformation spread against MONUSCO and said there were times when they were engaging with people that they had to get into vehicles and return because stones were thrown at them.
The Major Switch
Major Sen graduated as a biotech engineer and was pursuing a Master's degree from IIT Bombay when she decided to join the Army.
When she was asked about what made her make the switch, she said, "I always wanted to serve humanity and India, but I always thought I would I'll be a scientist and do it. In my last year of college, I applied for an SSB (Service Selection Board), just for the sake of it. And I went for the SSB just to see Allahabad, I thought I will see a new place and, somehow, I just cleared it."
"I was enjoying studying - I love science. I love to study. It was my parents who have taught me there are many ways of serving mankind and the country, and I think there's no better way for me to do it than what I'm doing now. And I cannot be happier that I chose this field and it's just really good to be a part of the armed forces," she emphasised.

"Definitely India": Ex-Pakistan Star Backs His Side To Lose T20 WC Clash
Former Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal backed India to emerge victorious in the clash between two teams at the upcoming T20 World Cup. The two Asian Giants will write a new chapter in their rivalry in the upcoming edition of the marquee event. The tournament will begin on June 1, with the USA and the West Indies serving as the hosts. On June 9, India and Pakistan will step into New York's Nassau County Cricket Stadium to play the highly anticipated clash in front of 35,000 fans. During a Q&A session on Instagram, Akmal was asked about his prediction for the star-studded clash, to which he replied, "Definitely India."
When India and Pakistan appear on the same field at the same time, there is always a different buzz associated with the match, with fans investing their emotions to support their team.
This time, in one of the biggest rivalries in cricket, the atmosphere will certainly be different after India defied the odds to stand victorious in the previous edition of the tournament against the archrivals.
In their previous encounter in 2022, the Men in Green were far ahead in the game. India needed 28 runs off a mere 8 deliveries to walk away with a victory.
With Virat Kohli on strike against Haris Rauf, the stalwart batter took a step back and struck a towering six right over the head of the Pakistan speedster. In an emotion-packed game, commentator Gerard Whateley delivered the iconic "That is a shot of an emperor" line to describe Kohli's masterclass.
He tonked another maximum on the next ball, which laid the foundation for a successful 160-run chase for India. The match lived up to its hype, and the fans will be expecting another cracker of a match.
Before the epic clash between the two cricketing giants, India will take on Ireland in their tournament opener on June 5. Pakistan will meet USA in their opening clash on June 6.

Key Accused In Gujarat Game Zone Fire, Which Killed 28, Arrested In Rajasthan
The main accused in the case of a gaming zone fine in Gujarat's Rajkot, which killed 27, has been arrested, the police said on Monday.
The key accused Dhawal Thakkar was arrested from Abu Road in Rajasthan. The police received information that he had been hiding at his relative's house in Rajasthan.
A local court earlier today sent three men arrested in connection with the game zone fire to police custody for 14 days.
Special public prosecutor Tushar Gokani said that when asked about certain documents, the accused claimed they got burnt in the fire.
A first information report (FIR) was filed against six partners of the TRP game zone. Two partners in Raceway Enterprise, which operated the TRP game zone, Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, and the manager of the recreation centre, Nitin Jain, were arrested earlier today.
As per the FIR, the accused erected a 50-metre-wide and 60-metre-long structure that was as high as a three-storey building using metal sheet fabrication to create a game zone.
They did not have proper firefighting equipment and had not obtained no-objection certificate (NOC) from the local fire department.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said the government-appointed special investigation team (SIT) had seized all files related to the game zone for further investigation.
"The SIT has seized all relevant files from 2021 till 2024 in my presence from various departments such as the road and building department, police and Rajkot Municipal Corporation. We will not spare those found guilty of any wrongdoing," Mr Sanghavi told reporters in Gandhinagar.

Influencer Bobby Kataria Arrested Over Human Trafficking Charges
Social media influencer Balwant Kataria alias Bobby Kataria was arrested on Monday for allegedly human trafficking of two Uttar Pradesh youths, police said.
The case has been registered against Kataria under section 370 of the IPC at the Bajghera Police Station Gurugram, police said.
The complainants, Arun Kumar, a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and Manish Tomar, a resident of Hapur, said that they were unemployed. They were in touch with Kataria via Instagram.
The complainants told the police that on Bobby's YouTube channel MBK, they saw an advertisement about abroad-based job. Following this they called Bobby Kataria on on his WhatsApp. Bobby called them to meet his office in Sector 109 on the pretext of getting them a job in a foreign country.
The complainant then met Kataria in his office on 1 February 2024 and paid Rs 2,000 for registration.
After this, on the request of Bobby Kataria, on February 13, Rs 50,000 was transferred to his official account which was registered in the name of MBK Global Visa Private Limited.
Thereafter, on Bobby's instruction on March 14, another amount of Rs 1 lakh was transferred to the account of a person named Ankit Shaukeen. Kataria sent the tickets of Vientiane (Laos) through Shaukeen's WhatsApp.
On March 28, as per the instructions of Bobby Kataria, Kumar got Rs 50,000 converted into USD at the airport and boarded the flight to Vientiane.
Similarly, lakhs of rupees were taken from his friend Manish Tomar on the pretext of sending him to Singapore, but he was also made to board a flight to Vientiane.
When both of them landed at Vientiane airport, they met a young man named Abhi, who described himself as a friend of Bobby Kataria and a Pakistani agent.
He dropped them off at the Hotel Mican Son in Vientiane, where they found a young man named Ankit Shaukeen and Nitish Sharma alias Rocky. They took the victims to an anonymous Chinese company. There both the friends were severely beaten and their passports were snatched.
At the same time, they were forced to commit cyber fraud against US citizens. Both of them were threatened that if the work was not done as per their instructions then they would not be able to return to India and they would be killed there.
"About 150 Indians including women were brought into that company through human trafficking by brokers like Bobby Kataria on the pretext of jobs. Somehow, we escaped from there and reached the Indian Embassy and came back to India and filed a police complaint against Kataria," the complainant told the police.

Sharvari's Scintillating Co-Ords From Taras Are No Respite From The Heat
Attention Bollywood buffs. Drop everything because Sharvari Wagh has just appeared in a new Bollywood dance number and you have to see it to believe this new side of hers. In the new song Taras from the upcoming film Munjya, she doesn't shy away from fully nailing some complex dance moves without breaking a sweat. Needless to say, the actress looks stunning in the song which features her in some monochrome numbers. Her first look was in a black bralette and a long skirt with a slit on the side, a break from the little black dress. It also breaks away from the girl-next-door persona she is known to carry. The bralette with thin straps is embroidered with black sequins and the skirt is sheer with sequins and a slit on the side. Worn with golden dangling earrings with a sun motif, dewy makeup and mermaid-like wavy hair, she dances away into our hearts and minds without showing us any taras.

For the second look, Sharvari Wagh wore a co-ord set that would be enough to set any night party on fire. Sharvari skipped footwear and danced like the pro she was. But other than that she opted for a burgundy bralette, fully embellished with sequin work. The cowl crop top worn with a neutral skirt may not be a new pairing but it sure looks new on this fashionista who loves preppy trends. With a little pop of colour, endless shimmer and shine and the right dance moves, Sharvari Wagh proves that anything is possible.

On the other hand, celebrations erupted in the KKR camp as they clinched a well-deserved victory.
"Really happy, credit goes to Abhishek Nayar, all the credit in the world, the way he's worked for the franchise. Some contributions go unnoticed, I want to make sure they don't. He was the one who built this Indian core. We waited for 10 years, credit to the management and the coaching staff," Venkatesh Iyer said after the match.
This was KKR's first IPL title in a decade and it came under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir. Incidentally, they won their last two titles with Gambhir serving as their captain.
"When GG bhai was appointed as the mentor I had messaged him and said I am very happy he's coming back to KKR, but he said that he would be happy if we are on that podium lifting the trophy. Today is that day and I will never forget that message," Nitish Rana said when asked about Gambhir's impact.
Rinku Singh also echoed similar sentiments as the KKR players celebrated the victory.
"Outstanding feeling right now. Dream has come true - I have been here for 7 years and we are so happy. Credit to GG sir. I will finally lift the IPL trophy. It was God's plan," he said.

Ex-Google Recruiter Says "Boring" Resumes Can Get You Hired
With over 15 years of experience recruiting for tech giants like Google, Apple, Samsung, and Nvidia, Stefanie Fackrell has seen it all when it comes to resumes. One of the most surprising yet valuable pieces of advice she offers to job seekers? Keep it classic.
In an interview with CNBC Make It, she emphasized the importance of a classic approach: "Make it boring," she said, suggesting resumes should avoid "colours, charts, graphs, or pictures." Instead, Ms Fackrell recommends a clean, straightforward format that allows the candidate's achievements to shine through.
"When I used to work at Google, people would always submit artistic resumes with charts and the Google colours," Ms Fackrell said. Instead of writing a list of titles and accomplishments, they'd split their resume into columns and quadrants. Ms Fackrell believes that by creating these colourful resumes, "you're just being a little gimmicky". Some of these resumes are also "not easily readable," which makes the applicants' qualifications harder to discern.
Ms Fackrell has worked with Google, Apple, Nvidia, and Samsung.
Explaining how an ideal resume should be, she said, "A resume is showcasing you in a 10-to-60-second format on paper." Telling a compelling story and being as clear and concise as possible "is what's going to win you in a sea" of other applicants, she said, adding that while listing powerful accomplishments, the document must not be more than two pages long.
Beyond aesthetics, Ms Fackrell identifies another red flag: resumes that simply list daily tasks. "Where a lot of people make mistakes on their resume is they're listing out their daily job duties," she told the publication. Instead, your resume should be a showcase of accomplishments, woven together with relevant job duties.
Recruiters aren't interested in your daily grind of emails and meetings. They want to see evidence of impactful projects, revenue generation, and contributions to company growth. Fackrell emphasizes that a list of duties alone raises concerns about your impact and the effort invested in the resume, potentially reflecting on your potential work ethic.

Indian Filmmaker's 'All We Imagine As Light' Wins Grand Prix At Cannes
Filmmaker Payal Kapadia on Saturday scripted history as her spellbinding drama "All We Imagine as Light" won the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The film bagged the award, which is the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'Or, during the closing ceremony of the 77th edition.
Ms Kapadia's feature directorial debut, which screened on Thursday night and has received glowing reviews in the international press, already registered its name in the history books after it became the first Indian film in 30 years and the first ever by an Indian female director to be showcased in the main competition.
The screening of the film received an eight-minute standing ovation from the audience members. "All We Imagine as Light", a Malayalam-Hindi feature, is about Prabha, a nurse, who receives an unexpected gift from her long-estranged husband that throws her life into disarray. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a private spot in the big city to be alone with her boyfriend.
One day the two nurses go on a road trip to a beach town where the mystical forest becomes a space for their dreams to manifest, according to the plotline.
International critics have given the film a thumbs up and praised Ms Kapadia's storytelling prowess.
An alumna of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Ms Kapadia is best known for her acclaimed documentary "A Night of Knowing Nothing", which premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival's Director's Fortnight side-bar where it won the Oeil d'or (Golden Eye) award.
Her short film "Afternoon Clouds" in Cinefondation, a category dedicated to supporting the next generation of talented filmmakers. "All We Imagine As Light" is an Indo-French co-production between Petit Chaos from France and Chalk and Cheese Films from India.

Cannes 2024: Joey King In A Blue Gown Was Part Glamazon, Part Princess
The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is in full swing and there is a new dose for us to consume every passing day. Joey King is the latest Hollywood star to mark her debut at the prestigious event. She looked incredibly chic in a custom gown by fashion designer Cong Tri. The actress picked a sky-blue corseted number, crafted with sheer fabric. With a plunging V-neckline, the bodice featured broad straps. The bustier was attached to a drapey fabric with ruched detailing, giving her outfit a cold-shoulder appearance. The bodice extended downwards to form a sheer corset, adorned with shimmery embellishments. The figure-grazing corset made a smooth transition around her midriff region, as it was attached to loose-fitted pleats moving down to form a sheer flowy hem. The broad straps of the outfit were connected to double trains behind her. Joey went for custom Gianvito Rossi pointy heels. Keeping her Cannes debut look on the minimal end, Joey opted for a pair of drop earrings and a few rings. She left her side-parted hair loosened.
Also Read: Joey King In A Black David Koma Cutout Gown Was The Reigning Queen Of This Red Carpet
Last month, Joey King attended the American Film Institute Awards. The actress looked stunning, as she turned muse to David Koma. The fashion designer dressed her to perfection in a cutout gown. Joey wore a slinky regular-fit outfit, featuring a halter neckline and off-shoulder sleeves attached to a risqué bodice. The all-black number came with massive cutout detail around her chest and the midriff that rightly welcomed all kinds of drama. The ensemble came with a floor-sweeping flowing hem with an elegant trail. Joey swept her silky tresses sideward and left them open. For the glam, she went with coral lips, matching her cheeks and eyeshadow. A pair of gleaming earrings sealed the deal.
For her film Bullet Train's premiere in Los Angeles, Joey King slipped into a white gown with multiple edgy elements. The bodice of the ensemble featured a white blazer with long sleeves. Its plunging neckline was deep till the waist, highlighting the cutout details across the sides. The peak collared blazer was attached to the skirt adorned with white fringe and a subtle trail. Once again, she kept her look strictly minimal by opting for a layered necklace.

Joey King is known for her roles in The Kissing Booth films and The Princess. She is awaiting the release of her film A Family Affair. In the romantic comedy movie, she will share the screen space with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

Explained: What Are FLiRT Covid Variants, Are They More Dangerous?
The so-called FLiRT variants of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that cause COVID-19 have been the dominant forms of the virus circulating this year globally, according to the World Health Organization
The moniker FLiRT is an acronym for the locations of the mutations the variants share on the virus' spike protein. One of them, called KP.2, has become the most commonly circulating variant in the United States over the past month, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Here is what you need to know about FLiRT.
HOW ARE THE FLIRT VARIANTS DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS VARIANTS?
The FLiRT variants, which also include KP.2's "parental" lineage JN.1, have three key mutations on their spike protein that could help them evade antibodies, according to Johns Hopkins University.
ARE THE FLIRT VARIANTS MORE CONTAGIOUS OR LIKELY TO CAUSE MORE SEVERE ILLNESS?
Dr. Aaron Glatt, chief of infectious diseases at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, New York, and a spokesperson for the Infectious Diseases Society of America said he has not seen evidence of an uptick in disease or hospitalizations, based on the data he tracks and experience with his own patients.
"There have been some significant changes in the variants, but I think in recent times it's not been as important, probably because of the immunity many, many people already have" from prior illness and vaccination.
CDC data suggests that COVID-related hospitalizations have trended downwards in recent weeks and the number of patients in emergency departments who have tested positive for COVID has been about flat for the past month.
Data suggests that COVID rates are also down year-over-year. The rate of COVID hospitalizations is less than half than a year earlier, and the amount of the antiviral Paxlovid currently being prescribed for COVID-19 is down around 60% from last year, according to analyst notes.
DO CURRENT VACCINES WORK AGAINST THE FLIRT VARIANTS?
The current vaccines should still have some benefit against the new variants, Glatt said.
Since 2022, health regulators have asked vaccine makers to design new versions of the COVID-19 vaccines to better target circulating variants. Last month, Europe's regulator said vaccine makers should target the JN.1 variant. U.S. experts and regulators will meet to discuss vaccine design on June 5 after having postponed the meeting from May 16 in order to have more time to "obtain surveillance data and other information."
Makers of vaccines based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology - Pfizer with partner BioNTech, and Moderna - say they are waiting for the June 5 meeting before settling on the design of their next vaccines.
Novavax, which makes a more traditional protein-based vaccine that takes longer to manufacture, has begun producing a shot targeting JN.1 consistent with recommendations from European regulators.

Pics: Gaza Zookeeper Flees Rafah, Creates Temporary Home For Animals
In a cowshed in Gaza's Khan Yunis, zookeeper Fathi Ahmed Gomaa has created a temporary home for dozens of animals including lions and baboons, having fled with them from Israel's offensive in Rafah.

A lioness rests in a cage after the animals of the Rafah Zoo were evacuated to a location in Khan Yunis in the Gaza strip.
"We've moved all the animals we had, except for three big lions that remain (in Rafah)", he said.
"I ran out of time and couldn't move them."
Ahmed abandoned his zoo in Rafah when Israel ordered the evacuation of parts of the southern Gazan city.

Before the offensive, the city on the border with Egypt had been spared a ground invasion and more than half of the Gaza Strip's population was sheltering there.
Now, the Israeli offensive has sent more than 800,000 people fleeing from Rafah, according to the UN, with Gomaa and his family among them.
"I am appealing to the Israeli authorities: these animals have no connection to terrorism", Gomaa told AFP, saying he wanted their help in coordinating with aid agencies to rescue the lions left behind in Rafah.
He fears they won't survive long on their own.

"Of course, within a week or 10 days, if we don't get them out they will die because they'll be left with no food or water."
Gomaa said he had already lost several of his animals to the war. "Three lion cubs, five monkeys, a newborn monkey and nine squirrels," he said.
And while the squawking of parrots fills the air, many of Gomaa's other birds are no longer with him.

"I released some of the dogs, some of the hawks and eagles, some of the pigeons and some of the ornamental birds. I released a lot of them because we didn't have cages to transport them."
In the cowshed, Gomaa is making do with what he has, using improvised fencing to raise the heights of the pens so that their new inhabitants, spotted deer, can't leap out.

Israeli troops began their assault on Rafah on May 7, defying widespread international concern for the safety of the 1.4 million civilians sheltering in the city.
The bloodiest ever Gaza war broke out after Hamas's unprecedented attack on October 7 resulted in the deaths of more than 1,170 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of Israeli official figures.
Operatives also took 252 hostages, 121 of whom remain in Gaza, including 37 the army says are dead.
Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed at least 35,800 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry.

Kohli's Heart-Wrenching Act After RCB's IPL Exit A Repeat Of ODI WC Final
Star batter Virat Kohli was visibly dejected after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the defeat to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Wednesday. RCB's six-game winning-run was abruptly halted in Ahmedabad with the franchise once again missing out on the chance to lift the title. Kohli had a stellar season with the bat, scoring 741 runs in 15 matches. While it is highly likely that Kohli will take home the Orange Cap, an IPL trophy remains elusive for the former RCB captain.
After Rovman Powell hit the winning boundary for RR, a dejected Kohli was seen knocking off the bails, repeating his actions after the heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final to Australia at the same venue.

Kohli on Wednesday scripted history as he became the first player to score 8000 runs in the IPL.
To surpass the 8000-run mark, Kohli needed just 29 runs, and he achieved it with his trademark grace and accuracy. Yuzvendra Chahal removed Kohli after he had scored 33 runs off 24 balls, including three boundaries and a six. His nearest rival, Shikhar Dhawan, trails at 6,769 runs.
So far in the tournament, Kohli has amassed 741 runs in 15 games for RCB. With an average of 64 and a strike rate of 155 this season, he scored one century and five half-centuries.
Talking about the Eliminator clash, Rajasthan Royals ended their four-match winless run in the Indian Premier League and bounced back just at the right moment to seal their place in the Qualifier 2.
Meanwhile, Kohli is set to leave for New York in the coming days to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
He has been named in the 15-man squad, which will be led by Rohit Sharma.
India are scheduled to play Ireland in their tournament opener on June 5.

Train Drivers, Who Suffered Miscarriages, Now Try To Save Colleagues' Babies
A group of women train drivers, who suffered miscarriages while attending duties, has said the Railways Board should frame guidelines to transfer expecting female frontline workers to lighter or stationary jobs in offices, in consonance with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017.
They have written to the Railway Board, saying the Act prohibits an employer to engage a pregnant woman in a job of arduous nature as it can interfere with her pregnancy.
"The job of a loco pilot has been notified as arduous in nature in the Railways Act and section 4 of the Maternity Benefit Act categorically says that women employees cannot be asked to do jobs which is arduous in nature," a female loco pilot, who suffered multiple miscarriages due to her harsh working conditions, said.
Women train drivers say entering the engine cab itself is a back-breaking task as the height of the handle of the cab ladder is around six feet from the ground level.
"At railway stations, it is easy to come out and get into the engine cab, but in railway yards or out-of-station areas, it is extremely difficult due to its height from the ground. We have to hold the handle of the cab ladder tight and pull ourselves up, taking all our weight on both hands, to access the first step of the ladder," the loco pilot said while pointing out that this kind of activity is prohibited for pregnant women.
"They share various other harsh activities which they have to perform as loco pilots or assistant loco pilots (ALPs) "In the case of Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP), those who work as ALPs have to go to the coach concerned to fix it even during late at night. There have been cases in which women ALPs, while rushing towards the coach, lost their balance and fell on the ground in the dark and injured themselves," another woman loco pilot said.
"If a cattle is hit by the engine and gets entangled in it, the ALP must come out of the engine cab and pull out the trapped cattle or its body parts. It is a physically exhausting and emotionally-draining job," she added.
Some women loco pilots, who have delivered babies, say they went on leave without pay during the early pregnancy period as they get maternity leave for only eight weeks before the expected delivery date by law.
"We request our seniors to put us on lighter jobs, but they refuse saying there is no such policy," a woman train driver who recently delivered a baby said.
The railway trade unions and loco pilots' bodies have backed the contention and written to the Railway Board demanding stationary jobs for such women for a certain period before and after childbirth, as mentioned in the Act.
On January 8, the women's wing of the Indian Railway Loco Running Organisation (IRLRO) submitted various grievances of women train drivers to the chief labour commissioner (central).
One of their complaints regarding the absence of a provision for light duty during pregnancy said, "Many of the women are facing miscarriages as there is no light duty provision since the job of a loco pilot is notified as arduous in nature under governing rules, amounting to the violation of section 4 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961." "We are also bereft with the facility of nursing break during 11 hours of running duty, amounting to violation of section 11 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961," it added.
Section 11 of the Act says: "Every woman delivered of a child who returns to duty after such delivery shall, in addition to the interval for rest allowed to her, be allowed in the course of her daily work two breaks of the prescribed duration for nursing the child until the child attains the age of 15 months." Women drivers, who are lactating mothers also, say they are sent to outstation jobs, in complete disregard to the Maternity Benefit Act, due to which they remain away from home for two to three days.
"Many of us who do not have earned leave go on leave without pay for child care. Unless the Railway Board frames guidelines in this regard, women frontline workers will continue to suffer," a female loco pilot from the Kota Rail Division said.

"Take 'Sajni' On Voting Date": Poll Body's Meme To Boost Voter Turnout
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a creative approach to boost voter turnout in the 6th phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, leveraging a trending meme from the popular Netflix film "Laapataa Ladies."
Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by her and Aamir Khan, the film follows the story of two newlyweds who find themselves separated from their husbands right after their weddings. It stars Sparsh Shrivastav, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Ravi Kishan.
In one memorable scene from the movie, the protagonist (Sparsh Shrivastav), who hails from a village and doesn't speak English fluently, nervously asks his wife (Nitanshi Goel), "Poori English bolkar dikhaye [May I speak in full English?]" before expressing his love for her.
The ECI has ingeniously adapted this scene into a meme template, with the protagonist saying, "poori English bolkar dikhaye" to his wife, and then goes on to say, "let's go vote."
“This election season take your ‘sajni' on a voting date,” the ECI wrote , referencing the film's hit song ‘Sajni' by Arijit Singh and Ram Sampath.

"He Killed My Son": Mother Of Man Killed In Pune Porsche Accident
She kept her composure for the first few questions. Then gave in at the fourth minute and burst into tears. The woman was answering questions about her son, who was killed in the horrific Porsche crash in Pune in the early hours of Sunday.
"Usne mere bachhe ki jaan le li. Mera bachha mujhse door ho gaya. Ab kabhi nahi mil paaungi main usse (He killed my son. Now, I will never be able to meet my son)," said a crying Savitha Awadhiya, mother of Aneesh Awadhiya who died in the accident.
Three days after bail was granted to the Pune teenager upon the condition that he write an essay on accidents, the Juvenile Justice Board has modified its order and sent him to a remand home till June 5.
"Ladke ki galti hai, hatya bhi keh sakte hai usko. Kyunki agar usne itni badi galti nahi ki hoti toh aaj kisi ki jaan na jaati. Agar thoda bhi uske ghar waalo ne mana kiya hota ki aisa nahi karte hain toh aaj mere bete ki jaan bachi hoti. Ye seedhe seedhe hatya kehlati hai ("It is the boy's mistake, you can even call it murder, because if he had not made such a big mistake, no one would have died. If only his family members had paid attention, then today my son would have been alive. This is straight up murder," said Ms Awadhiya.
The 17-year-old Pune boy, celebrating his Class 12 results, was drinking with his friends hours before the accident, showed a video. CCTV footage from Cosie bar showed happy scenes all around with the table crowded with alcohol bottles.
"Kadi se kadi saja milni chahiye. Bahut bachane ki koshish kar rahe hai woh apne bachhe ko. Paise waale hain isiliye sochte hain ki hum apne bachhe ko kahin se bhi bacha ke nikal sakte hain. Lekin mera bachha toh gaya hai na (He should face strictest punishment. They are trying very hard to save him. They are people with money and think can save their son. But my son died)," she said, appealing the Maharashtra government to help her get justice.

"Am A Love Child": Philippines Town Mayor Denies Being Chinese Spy
The mayor of a small Philippines town who has been accused of being a Chinese spy has rebutted the charges and clarified that she is a filipino. Alice Leal Guo, the mayor of Bamban town in Philippines, is being investigated for her alleged ties to China after she failed to give clear answers when asked about her family background during a senate hearing.
"I want to tell the public is that I am not a Chinese spy. I am a Filipino. I love my own country. I am not an asset," said Alice Leal Guo in an interview to ABS-CBN news.
According to BBC, she has also said that she is a "love child" of her father who was Chinese and his Filipino maid and that her mother had abandoned her. "I am my father's love child with a maid... It's a very private matter. I can't just tell anyone that my own mother had deserted me," she said.
Ms Guo also said that during the hearing, her mind just "went blank".
The clarification comes amid heat she has been facing for being an alleged "asset of China".
Alice Leal Guo is under investigation after an online offshore casino in her town, also called POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations), was found to be a front for a scam centre. POGOs are online gaming firms for foreign customers, particularly Chinese nationals since gambling there is illegal. As per BBC, the land on which the casino was built was partially owned by Ms Guo. However, she has claimed that she sold her stakes before becoming the mayor in 2022.
While facing a senate hearing for this, Ms Gua gave vague answers when asked about her childhood and family background. She revealed that her birth certificate was registered when she turned 17 because she was born in a house, not a hospital. She also said that she was home-schooled, however, couldn't give more details about that.
Ms Guo's inability to share a clear picture of her childhood and her alleged links to the POGO centre in her town raised suspicions about her nationality.
''Is she, along with others like her who have mahiwaga [mysterious] backgrounds, an asset inserted by China into our government to have a heavy influence in Philippine politics?'' said a senator, Risa Hontiveros, on May 8.
President Ferdinand Marcos has also raised his concerns saying, "I know all the politicians from Tarlac [province], no one knows her. So, we are wondering where she came from. We don't know. That's why an investigation is really needed."
According to South China Morning Post, Ms Gua said that allegations against her regarding the POGO centre didn't affect her, however, the scrutiny she faced over suspicions of being a Chinese spy has "hurt" her. She also said that she hopes to find her mother some day.
Philippines and China have been embroiled in a diplomatic row over claims on the South China sea. China's territorial claim over the entire sea overlaps with that of other countries including the Philippines.

"No Error": Top Court Rejects Review Petitions Against Article 370 Verdict
The Supreme Court has dismissed a batch of review pleas filed against the Constitution Bench verdict upholding the revocation of Article 370 as valid.
"Having perused the review petitions, there is no error apparent on the face of the record. No case for review under Order XLVII, Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013. The review petitions are, therefore, dismissed," a bench, headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, said.
Further, the 5-judge Bench, also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, and A.S. Boppana, dismissed the applications seeking listing of the review petition in open court and seeking permission to appear and argue in person.
The review petition, filed under Article 137 of the Constitution, against the decision rendered on December 11, said that the impugned judgment should not have left open the question of whether the Parliament can extinguish the character of statehood by converting a state into one or more Union Territories.
In its verdict delivered on December 11, a Constitution Bench, headed by CJI Chandrachud had upheld the status of Ladakh as a Union Territory under Article 3(a) read with Explanation I of the Constitution, which permits the formation of a Union Territory by separating a territory from any state.
However, it did not deal with the question of whether the Parliament could extinguish the character of statehood by converting a state into one or more Union Territories.
"In view of the submission made by the Solicitor General that statehood would be restored of Jammu and Kashmir, we do not find it necessary to determine whether the reorganisation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir is permissible under Article 3," the top court had said.
Further, the SC held that the President has the power to issue a notification declaring that Article 370 ceases to exist even after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir. It added that Article 370 was a temporary provision, considering the historical context in which it was included in the Constitution of India.
In its verdict, the top court had also asked the Election Commission of India to take steps to conduct elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024.
Generally, review petitions are tested on very narrow grounds like mistakes of law, an error apparent on the face of the record, etc., and are often dismissed in chambers and are rarely given open court hearings.
